Citizen Participation Program

Recognizing the role and interventions of Civil Society Organizations and individual citizens in the Solid Waste Management process in Bengaluru, through the years, we have instituted a formalized Citizen Participation Program. This aims to further their role in supporting and creating large scale citizen participation which is instrumental in successful implementation of segregation at source and efficient solid waste management.

As a part of the BBMP Campaign being launched on Feb 1,2017 for a Swachha Bengaluru, BBMP announced the CITIZEN PARTICIPATION PROGRAMME - Naagrika Sahabhaghitva Karyakrama, whose aim is to create Citizen participation at every Level – City, Zone, Division, Ward and Block; through Co-ordinators, Master Trainers and Shuchi Mitras.

We have issued ID cards to these Civic Wardens who are working in a voluntary capacity to support the BBMP, to carry out training on SWM information, planning, awareness and monitoring of the SWM daily activities at the Ward level.

AIM:

Creating Citizen Participative Structures for Effective Micro /Macro SWM Planning and implementation through Citizen Participation at every Level through Civic Wardens (Master Trainers, Zone Co-ordinators, Ward Co-ordinators and Suchi Mithras)

Objective:

To enable citizen participation in – • The formulation of the City SWM Policy
• Performance appraisal of SWM - Wards, City
• Monitoring and reporting
• Dissemination of information & awareness creation
• Ongoing training of stakeholders
