BluGreen Awards, 2025

Bengaluru’s first-ever Climate Action and Resilience Plan (BCAP) was launched on 27 November 2023 under the leadership of Shri Rakesh Singh, the then Administrator of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development Department, Government of Karnataka, along with Shri Tushar Girinath, Chief Commissioner, BBMP. The implementation of BCAP is now being steered by the current leadership comprising Shri S. R. Umashankar, Administrator, BBMP, and Smt. Uma Mahadevan, Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Development Commissioner, Government of Karnataka, with continued support from the Chief Commissioner. With the launch of BCAP, Bengaluru became the 3rd city in India to have a climate action plan under the C40 City’s network. The main objectives of BCAP are to mitigate Greenhouse Gas emissions from the city and build adaptation and resilience against climate change hazards in a collaborative manner, leading to inclusive outcomes for Bengaluru’s citizens. To achieve these objectives, BCAP has formulated short, medium and long term strategies and actions in seven key sectors in consultation with all relevant stakeholder agencies. Apart from achieving desired mitigation and resilience goals, implementation of BCAP actions will have several co-benefits, especially in terms of enhanced livability, improved public health, greater opportunities for green jobs, and better social equity through reduction of risk and vulnerability from climate change induced hazards.

The BluGreen Awards stand as a testimony to Bengaluru’s growing climate movement, aiming to build a network of climate leaders and solution providers committed to shaping a sustainable city.
